As the MS-Windows operating system has evolved, it has become very complex, with many dependencies between its parts and the applications which run on it.  As a client/server application, Captools/net is dependent upon more MS-Windows operating system functions and services than the typical "desktop" only application.  Accordingly there is more opportunity for system configuration issues arising which can thwart installation or proper operation of Captools/net, particularly the Captools/net server-side applications.

We have developed and tested Captools/net on a number of different computers using MS-Windows XP Pro and MS-Windows Server 2003, and Vista operating systems (please inquire about follow on versions as they become available) in order to confirm installability and operability on typical systems.  Most users should accordingly not have difficulty installing or running Captools/net on an "out of the box" computer.  However, when a computer has been manually reconfigured, and/or is running a variety of other third party applications, each of which has configured operating system settings on installation, there is a risk of problems occurring which require system re-configuration in order to allow Captools/net installation and operation.  This topic is devoted to providing the steps required to resolve known issues that could arise for some users.
