IE Report Run/Clone Pop-up Failure

Previous topic Next topic

A few users have encountered a problem with Microsoft Internet Explorer problem where the user would be able to get to the report selection screen but then when he or she tries to run/clone a report no window or tab would pop-up.

This  is an IE failure.  The solution to this is found at: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/unable-to-open-new-tabs-or-new-windows-in-any/26da2ff1-8660-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5.  From there there is a link to: http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=48&id=133&artlang=en which contains a zip file the user can download and run a script to reregister/install any missing dlls. It works for IE7, 8, and 9. There are a several versions the user can download depending on your setup. One is for a 32bit OS, another for 64bit version of IE on 64bit OS, and the final version is for 32bit on 64bit OS. The final version is probably going to be the most applicable as a user cannot force their IE to open in 64-bit automatically so in Captools, at least for now, the user will be running a 32bit version of IE regardless of their OS version.

Since the above described problem is an IE failure, you may find that you will need to download the "fix" file in a different browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.).

Once the file is downloaded and unzipped you need to open the Windows Task Manager and ensure that all instances of iexplore.exe are closed before you run the script.

Then the you must run the Command Prompt with admin rights, copy and paste the link to the script location, and run the script. This should be quick. Once the script has been run when the user opens a new instance of IE with the report selection page the user should now be able to click run or clone and the next window should be able to pop up.
